A Message From Christine Pieton, Owner & Founder of Pieton Physical Therapy
- Are you unsure if you’re doing Kegels correctly, or if they’re even helping?
- Are you experiencing pelvic pain or heaviness that interrupts your day-to-day activities?
- Are you having pain with sex that’s making it difficult to connect with your partner?
- Are you leaking that you’re needing to go to the bathroom often, and notice that you’ve become preoccupied with where you’ll be able to go next?
- Are you concerned when you cough/sneeze, while doing certain movements throughout your day, or while you’re exercising?
- Are you unsure what exercises are safe for you to be doing to help rebuild your core and pelvic floor strength?
- Are you having trouble keeping up with the activities you love, or resuming exercise the way you want to without pelvic pain, leaking, or limitations?
If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, you are in the right place!
Many women suffer unnecessarily with pelvic pain, leaking and urgency challenges because they’ve been told...
- Just do Kegels to address ANY pelvic floor complaint, without being educated on how to do them, or determining if that’s truly the sources of the issue.
- Leaking is common, especially if you’ve had kids and to be expected as you get older. Just wear a pad.
- You should avoid exercise and strength training as that puts a lot of stress on your pelvic floor. Just stick with walking.
- Have an extra glass of wine before having sex. You just need to relax. That’s why it’s painful.
- Your test results and imaging all came back negative. There’s nothing wrong. Your pelvic pain seems to be in your head.
The Truth Is...
- When were you ever taught HOW to do a Kegel, or given feedback to know if you were doing them correctly? Ummm...never!
- Kegels are not the golden ticket to fix any and all pelvic floor issues. So many women are simply told to “just do Kegels” without determining if that’s truly the source of the issue. For some pelvic health conditions, doing too many Kegels actually worsens symptoms.
- There are a number of reasons why pain with sex occurs. Being told to relax, have an extra glass of wine, and keep trying in hopes that it will get better with time are not supportive solutions, nor do they address the root cause.
- Peeing “just in case” can actually overtrain your bladder to tell your brain that you need to go more often. Say what?!
- Leaking is prevalent in women who have had children, and as women get older, BUT that’s because it’s often dismissed by our healthcare system. This does not have to be your forever. There are options! Being told to “just wear a pad” is not an acceptable long term solution in our book. You deserve better!
- Regular exercise and strength training is very helpful for supporting your pelvic floor issues, and is often needed as part of the solution for long term healing.
- Mama, don’t let anyone tell you that pelvic pain and leaking need to be your cost of admission into motherhood!

Leaking after babies being “normal” is a lie! Want to learn more about WHY and how you can fix it? We’ve got you covered…
We’ve put together this informative guide to help you understand some of the most common reasons why leaking occurs.
- What are some common reasons why leaking is so common after having babies?
- How are pelvic floor physical therapy and strength training helpful for addressing these issues?
- Why you don’t have to “just deal with this” as your forever.
Pain with sex isn’t sexy, and not enough people are talking about it. We’ve got you covered.
The lack of talking about sex in our society, in general, makes this extra problematic leaving many women to think, “it must just be me…” This creates additional feelings of shame, depression, anxiety, isolation, and decreased levels of connection with partners. This pain is not in your head, and no you don’t need to have an extra glass of wine to relax beforehand, nor do you need to just try harder and push through the pain to get past it. That last suggestion especially, is NOT helpful. We can’t tell you the number of times we hear these comments from patients, and how many of them have been told that those are the only solutions from other medical providers. This breaks our hearts. Those recommendations are SO hurtful and minimizing on many levels, not to mention the fact that they are NOT solutions.
There are a number of reasons why pain with sex can happen and we’d love to share them with you so you can better understand why this may be happening for you. In our Free guide “When Love Hurts” you’ll find:
- How does scar tissue contribute to pain with sex? Think c-section, vaginal tearing or abdominal surgery.
- How do hormonal changes, such as those that occur with breastfeeding and postmenopause, affect vaginal tissues?
- How do pelvic floor muscles play a role in all this?
- How can physical therapy help?
